Compare / the full cost

What is in the whole bill?

What is the medicine charge? What is the care charge? Keep those questions separate as you compare a quote.

What number are you being shown?

Ask for a quote that separates the medicine from the care. A headline price leaves room for questions.

Self-pay
Self-pay means paying the bill yourself, outside insurance. It does not count toward what you must pay before insurance starts paying. It also stays outside the annual cap on your own spending for care covered by the plan.
Deductible
A deductible is an amount your plan may make you pay before its drug benefit starts paying.

What can the medicine itself cost?

The kind of price matters. Compare the same product and the same form.

What else belongs in the quote?

Ask about each part before comparing totals.

Turn a quote into questions

Enter only amounts from a quote you already have. Blank means unknown. The worksheet makes a subtotal and a list of gaps to ask about.

Amounts in dollars

Use the stated charge for a month. For a test with no monthly quote, leave it blank and ask how often it is needed. Your entries stay on this page.

Add amounts, then make your list.
